Things to Consider When Preparing for a Routine Inspection

We understand that sometimes there are certain things that you skim over when preparing for a routine inspection. It’s important to ensure that your property is always kept well maintained, but it’s a good idea to give it a bit of an extra clean up if you have a scheduled routine inspection – especially if the landlord is attending. Vacuuming the floors and dusting the window sills are a usual part of our cleaning routines, but some things can easily be forgotten. We’ve compiled this small list to ensure that your property is ready for its routine!

 

  • We recommend that all of the walls in the property have a thorough wipe down to ensure that there are no scuff marks present. Of course, “wear and tear” is to be expected, but it’s important that you clean up any marks that you’ve caused within the property.

 

  • One aspect of the property that can be frequently over-looked, is the air conditioning unit. We suggest carefully removing the front casing, so that you can clean any dust that has accumulated in the filter. That way, if you have a very particular landlord, you will be able to demonstrate that you’re keeping all areas of the property clean.

 

  • It’s very important to ensure that any appliances in your kitchen are kept clean. Always keep handy cleaning supplies for your oven, and any other appliances. Don’t forget to give the wall behind your stove a good scrub!

 

 

  • Ensure that any cupboards, draws and their contents are kept clean and tidy. This is especially important if you have a pantry where sticky sauce bottles can be seen during a routine inspection.

 

  • It’s definitely beneficial to clear your home of any rubbish or bins that haven’t been emptied – if the property has a foul odour, the property manager and landlord will be sure to investigate it further.

 

 

  • Make sure that you clean the glass of the shower, the shower head, the drain, and any grout or tiles. The shower is an incredibly important aspect of maintaining a property.

 

  • A lot of the time, we forget that we also need to maintain the gardens in our rental property. If you have lawn, you will need to give it a quick trim and ensure that you’ve completed any weeding.
