Carbon Monoxide Testing

As it gets colder, more people will be using their heaters. Now is the ideal time to get your property tested for Carbon Monoxide, whether it be your investment property or own home.

Landlords have a duty of care to ensure a property is safe, so it is very important that the home is checked for carbon monoxide. Health.vic recommends that a home be tested for carbon monoxide a minimum of once every 2 years.

So at Professionals Ryder Real Estate we urge all our landlords to do their own research on the topic and complete a carbon monoxide test by an accredited company on a regular basis to ensure the tenants are safe.

Tenants can also put in a request to the owner to have their heater tested if they think it has been too long since the last test.

What is Carbon Monoxide?

Carbon Monoxide is a odorless gas that can cause illness or death. All types of gas heaters, including central heating, space heaters, wall units and gas log fires should be serviced and tested a minimum of every two years by a licensed gas fitter.

One extra step you can do is purchase a carbon monoxide detector for your home, which works similar to a smoke detector, alerting you to carbon monoxide in the air. Although this is not a complete solution and should be used only as an extra step.
