A report from the Centre for Urban Research showed that Melbourne has lost almost 2000 hectares of tree cover over the last five years, as suburban backyards are cleared to make room for housing.
Although, Melton increased its tree coverage by almost 2 per cent through 2018-2019. This was the result of numerous council and environmental groups, as the Western suburbs attempt to increase the greenery in the area.
The Melton City Council is also offering a free Home Energy Assessment with experts at ‘Positive Charge’, to review how much energy is being used within your property, and give you solutions to cut back on your consumptions.
The council has also prepared an ‘Environment Plan’ for 2017-2027 with the aim to reduce its environmental footprint. For more information on this plan, visit the link https://www.melton.vic.gov.au/Services/Environment-and-sustainability/Environment-Plan
