Here at Professionals Ryder Real Estate, we understand that moving into a new property may be stressful and overwhelming. In saying that, we have created a brief list of tasks for you to complete, ensuring that the transition into your new home a smooth one.

  • Organise your connections well in advance. It’s important to communicate with your internet and energy providers before you move into your new property, so that you can eliminate the chance of not having connections during the beginning of your tenancy.

  • Change your address. Contact the post office immediately so that they can be aware of your address change and can forward any relevant mail to you. It’s also crucial to contact businesses individually and inform them of your change of address, so that they can alter your details in their system. This can range from subscriptions to magazines, your bank account, the electoral roll, your insurance and registration providers and any other businesses that may need to send you important information via mail.

  • Organise house and contents insurance. Always be prepared for the possibility of worst case scenarios. This way, you’re protected on moving day and from then onwards if something serious happens to the property whilst you’re living there. It may seem extreme to prepare for these situations, but you can never be 100% sure whether or not you may become a victim.

  • Have a box packed that’s easily accessible for the first day/night in your new property. When moving, items can be misplaced or can be difficult to find straight away, so it’s a good idea to pack a box for your first night in the property. Include items such as toiletries, pyjamas and any other essentials. It may take a substantial amount of time to unpack all of your bags and boxes, so it’s important to ensure you can locate the necessities when you need them.
