Changes will include a major refurbishment and upgrade to the Melton Visitor and Information Centre. The Melton Visitor and Information Centre building is a very important and historical landmark, which was once operated as a courthouse and is one of the oldest, original buildings in Melton. It is also one of the only remaining buildings of its type in Victoria.
The renovations are aimed to bring vibrance and a welcoming environment into Melton’s central business district. The refurbishment will hopefully attract more visitors and locals to the Visitor and Information Centre, where they can discover a number of things to see and do and learn what our great suburb really has to offer.
A café already run by a local Melton family is going to be introduced into the Centre so people are able to sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee and plan their day.
Whilst the Melton and Information Centre is being refurbished, it will temporarily reside at the Melton Library and Learning Hub, located at 31 McKenzie Street, Melton, (just around the corner from its original position.)
Other areas that are going to be focused on in the redevelopment project of Melton’s CBD are both McKenzie Street and Palmerston Street. The idea is to create smaller spaces to help encourage small, local businesses as well as creating an enjoyable, safe environment for Melton locals and Visitors.
To me this is a start to a very exciting time for Melton residents and I can’t wait to go and enjoy the space that is due to be completed in the near future.
