This Sunday the 10th of May 2015 is Mother’s Day. A day where yes we celebrate and thank our own mothers, but we also recognise step mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, friends and any other motherly figure in our lives.
Although we followed the tradition of having a Mother’s Day from the UK and United States it is in fact an Australian, Janet Heyden from Sydney is said to of created the tradition of giving gifts on Mother’s Day in 1924 for lonely aged mothers.
Many Mother’s Day event organisations are held to raise funds for illnesses like breast cancer. The Mother’s Day Classic walk or run was started in 1998 and has been an increasingly popular event to go to for mother’s day each year! This event focuses on raising funds for breast cancer research, which is the most common cancer for women in Australia.
