Anzac Day in Melton
This Saturday the 25th of April 2015, marks 100 years since the landing of the Anzacs in Gallipoli. It is the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during WWI. The aim was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul) which was the capital of the Ottaman Empire (ally of Germany).
On Anzac Day we remember not only the Anzacs (meaning Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) who fought and sacrificed their lives 100 years ago at Gallipoli in Turkey, but all Australians who have lost their lives in military operations to this present day.
Between April the 13th and May the 21st white crosses made by Melton Men’s Shed will be available for a gold coin donation from Melton Council. The crosses can be placed near the Cenotaph on High Street, Melton. All donations will go to the Partners of Veterans Association.
Show respect and remember those who fought in defence for our nation by attending the Melton Dawn Service at the Melton War Memorial (393 High Street, Melton) at 6:00 AM
There were a total of 38 Anzacs from Melton, Victoria Australia and you can view their service records and place a tribute by clicking on the following link.
